For the love of the Foot Stool

Welcome to Lucy! My 11 week old, 29lb English Mastiff! I wanted her terribly and am so glad I found her!

The one thing I knew I was getting myself in to when getting a large breed, was the eating of items not normally eaten by other dogs. I have a 6 year old Mastiff/ Retriever mix that ate our couch when he was 9 months old. Yes, he really ate it. So this time I have expected, the cell phone charger (done), flip flop (done), stuffed animals (done), etc. But Lucy will actually walk by and start gnawing on the stairs, yes the stairs. Does she think this is something that she is going to be able to pick up and take with her?? Not sure, but she is determined!

She has also shown a like for metals. That's never good. She scratches at the metal divider inbetween the dining area and the kitchen that's on the floor, she is determined to get it up. I'm sure some day soon, she will. I'm guessing around 9 months... She also chews the brass on the corners of my end tables (yes I have brass on the corners of my end tables- hey they were given to me and yes they are SO 1980) So I guess I don't really mind if she eats those because then I have an excuse to get new ones!

On to the foot stool, which she is addicted to- if dogs can be addicted to anything. She likes the corners, she just nips at them. So in the near future I foresee coming home, Lucy! I'm home! And seeing white batting everywhere with my footstool in shambles. Oh how.. I love Lucy!

Potty Broke

My rule of potty training: The number one thing I go by is I don't buy puppy pads- they are a waste of money. It's kinda like buying Pull-ups for your kids. Why? Just train them directly to the outside...or the toilet if we're speaking of your children (or the outside if we're talking about my 3 year old son). It's just easier then having to go through 2 steps, when you should only have to go through 1.

So, Lucy is on week 3 (of being with us) and she is now going to the door and sitting there waiting. Good girl! All we had to do was continue to take her outside, constantly! Some people get frustrated, but really you can't be lazy about it or they will never get trained. We took her out every 45 minutes and it worked. So no accidents and being potty trained this quick, is worth getting up every 45 minutes for 3 weeks! Way to go Lucy!
